CosmoQuest is a crowdsourced astronomy project that invites people to assist in the identification and classification of surface features (such as craters, valleys, etc.) taken from imaging data received from space missions.[citation needed] It is an example of citizen science as it enlists the help of members of the public to assist in scientific research. CosmoQuest's citizen science initiatives began in 2012 with the Moon Mappers project.[1]
Overview

[edit]CosmoQuest's build team partners include the STEM Center, Astrosphere New Media Association, and Universe Today. Community partners include Astronomers Without Borders and The Planetary Society. Educational partners include the Galileo Teacher Training Program, Ward Beecher Planetarium, Swinburne Astronomy Online, and Dark Skies, Bright Kids. Partners providing data and science support include the Canadian Astronomical Data Center, NASA's Dawn Mission, Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, Hubble Space Telescope Archive Program, MESSENGER, and New Horizons. The Galileoscope project has also provided equipment support.[2]
