In recent years NIDA and SAMHSA has found a rising percent of American 12th graders have used marijuana in the last 30 days.[1] [2] Worldwide UNODC has also seen an increase of marijuana users, while most other drug uses have seen a decline.[3]

Ronald K. Siegel suggests that inebriation is the "fourth drive", arguing that the human seek mind-altering substances (psychoactive drugs) so much that it rivals with a human's desire to find shelter, or satisfy hunger and thirst.[4]
