The following is a list of characters from the CBS soap opera , Beyond the Gates Tamara Tunie , Daphnée Duplaix and Karla Mosley were the first three castings announced on September 19, 2024. Tunie would play matriarch, Anita Dupree , while Duplaix and Mosley would portray her onscreen daughters, Nicole Dupree Richardson and Dani Dupree .[ 1] Maurice Johnson , Brandon Claybon and Colby Muhammad as Nicole's husband Ted Richardson and their children, Martin and Katherine "Kat" Richardson . Sean Freeman was cast as Ted's nephew, Andre Hamilton, while Timon Kyle Durrett , Arielle Prepetit and RhonniRose Mantilla were cast as Dani's ex-husband, Bill Hamilton and daughters Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne and Chelsea Hamilton . Marquita Goings was tapped to play Bill's new fiancée, Hayley Lawson, while Trisha Mann-Grant and Ambyr Michelle were casts as mother-daughter duo, Leslie and Eva Thomas.[ 2] Clifton Davis , being cast as family patriarch, Vernon Dupree .[ 3] Jacob Hawthorne with Mike Manning as Bradley "Smitty" Smith , Martin's husband. Jen Jacob would play Naomi's best friend, Ashley Morgan and Ben Gavin would play Ashley's boyfriend and Jacob's best friend, Derek Baldwin. Lauren Buglioli was cast as Vanessa McBride , best friend to Nicole, while Alex Alegria was cast as young attorney, Tomas “Tom” Navarro , who has a crush on Kat.[ 4]

Creation and casting [ edit ] The casting notice was one of the first four castings reported in the summer of 2024.[ 5] Michele Val Jean . Anita is a member of the first family of Beyond the Gates , the Dupree family. Anita's original character outline was released in July 2024, during the casting process:
a Black female in her late 60s to 70s. She is a family matriarch. [―] A famous singer, Betty did not find success easily. She is proud to have raised two daughters with her iconic retired Senator husband. While she’s a doting mother, Betty is not someone who should be crossed.[ 5]
