In the Stillness of Forgiving Space (Georgian: სივრცე ყველაფრის მიმტევებელი) is a 2024 stop-motion animation by Lika Lolomadze, George Kurtiashvili and Nikoloz Meskhi produced under their independent production company Kriegsminister Works. The narration is provided by Zviad Skhirtladze. The film explores existential themes through the small talk of three skeletons as they tend to plants in their surreal garden. It was inspired by the 1917 painting The Garden of Death by Finnish artist Hugo Simberg and the poetry of Georgian poet Galaktion Tabidze. The skeletons in the film each represent the ideas of different philosophers: Voltaire, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche.[1][2]

Arthur, one of the skeletons in In the animation, turns his head, initiating a heated discussion

Plot

[edit]

The film opens with a verse by Galaktion Tabidze:

A thought that arose in me is dour -
Find joy in Tbilisi once more.
who burns the night with Schopenhauer
To seize the day with great fervor."

[3]

The audience is in the Tbilisi Metro, and through the journey, they arrive at the "last stop," entering a surreal garden. The narrator then reassures the audience, telling them not to be afraid of being here.

Here, the small talk begins between three skeletons tending to plants in their garden. The conversation, without a clear beginning or end, is sparked by one of the skeletons accidentally dropping a ceramic pot from the table. The entire dialogue is retold by the narrator, with the actual voices of the skeletons never heard.
