Overview is a 2012 short movie that documents the Overview effect, the impact that seeing Earth from space has on astronauts. Edgar Mitchell, Ron Garan, Nicole Stott, Jeff Hoffman and Shane Kimbrough discuss the transformation in perspective and feeling of awe generated by viewing the planet in this way. Frank White, who first described the Overview effect in his book of that title, and philosophers David Loy and David Beaver further elaborate on this.
The movie was released by Planetary Collective on July 7 2012, 40 years to the minute after The Blue Marble was taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts. It was launched at Harvard University, and received over 100,000 plays on Vimeo within its opening weekend.[1][2]
