I was about to turn off the TV when I overheard something disturbing on CNN. Troy Davis is due to be executed based on the testimony of witnesses that have mostly retracted their testimony, claiming the police pressured them to testify against Davis. The only witness that has not retracted his testimony is their main witness, Sylvester “Redd” Coles. I found this interesting because Sylvester “Redd” Coles is the reason the officer that was killed was even called to location of his murder to begin with. Sylvester “Redd” Coles was bullying a homeless person when a security guard called the police officer over to help him deal with Redd. This is when the police officer was murdered with a gun. Redd would clearly have motive to kill the officer if he was about to be arrested. After doing some research online I found out the police pressured the security guard to testify to seeing Troy shoot the officer despite the guard declaring he didn't see who shot the officer. The only witness the that came forward and claimed Troy was the shooter without any pressure from the police was Redd. Further research revealed that Redd happens to own the exact type of gun that killed the officer and had clear motive to kill him.
My Theory
[edit]Redd was about to be arrested and the officer would have found the gun on him during the arrest. Redd Coles came forward later that night and told the police Troy shot this officer to throw them off his trail. This explains why the police lack any physical evidence and had to pressure the other witnesses to testify against Troy Davis.
My Source
[edit]"No murder weapon was found and there is no DNA or any other physical evidence linking Troy Davis to the murder or to an earlier shoot out that night which injured another young man Michael Cooper. Davis had been around with his friend D.D. Collins, and reportedly saw Coles intimidating Larry Young, and tried to reason with Coles, but left when Cole threatened him and asked him to leave. Davis’s conviction came because of the testimony of nine so called eye witnesses. Leading the eye witness Parade was Sylvester “Redd” Coles. Coles has been described by many who know him as a fearsome neighborhood thug . Other eye witnesses were either those who claimed to be present at the shooting or near the crime scene and those who claimed Troy had confessed to them that he had killed Mark MacPhail. What came to light soon after was the fact that Sylvester Coles supposedly had a similar .38 caliber gun, which had killed the police officer. Affidavits submitted much later from 3 people who did not testify at the Davis trial also claim that Coles, confessed to killing the officer after Davis was convicted."
