Bahiga Hafez
[edit]Bahiga Hafez (1901-1983) was an Egyptian screenwriter, composer, director, producer and actress. Hafez was born and raised in Alexandria to an affluent family and later went on to study musical composition in Paris.
Working in Film
[edit]Hafez is often cited as being one of the pioneering women in Egyptian cinema. She started her career in film as an actress, starring in the silent film Zeinab, directed by Mohamed Karim. This sparked her interest in film and Hafez
Hafez founded the company Fanar Films.
Hafez's first film was Layla al-Badawiyya/ Layla the Bedouin (1937) but was not released until 1944
