Aircraft

[edit]

Date in italics and brackets indicates never flown. Numerical designations were applied retroactively in 1935 for aircraft of the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company (by then a wholly owned subsidiary of Curtiss-Wright), skipping many early and experimental aircraft, as well as most World War One aircraft designed by other companies and built under licence, and all aircraft of the original Curtiss Aeroplane Company. When the sequence reached 99, it was retired and further designs were numbered within the Curtiss-Wright CW sequence. Although Curtiss and Wright merged in 1929, both companies maintained their own identities within Curtiss-Wright until aircraft production ceased. The 1909 Pfitzner Flyer[1] and the 1914 Loening-Miller Tractor Biplane[2] were designed by others and built in the Curtiss shops but not by Curtiss and so are not included in the sequence.
