Wild Seed, Chapters 7-10
[edit]Chapter seven discusses Doro’s visit to see his children. In this chapter we see Doro’s feelings towards the people he confronts, this includes his son Isaac and the couple known as the Sloanes. Doro looks at his son with much respect. This is the complete opposite view he holds for the Sloanes, which he views as rebellious. Doro’s reason however, for visiting was related to making sure his son Isaac got married. Getting married was the only way to keep him alive. In this chapter, Doro molested Nweke, as he has done with her sisters. This chapter ends with Nweke fainting, after telling her mother and Isaac she was perfectly fine. Chapter eight begins where chapter seven left off. Anyanwu believes that Doro molesting all her daughters is revenge towards her. We learn in this chapter the reason Nweke fainted and that is because she was transitioning to the stage of having goddess like powers. This was something her sisters had gone through and now she would have to. Anyanwu was trying her hardest to guide her daughter through this process, to try and keep her alive. The kind of powers gained from this transition are powerful but also dangerous. In this chapter we see a flashback of the relationship Anyanwu is forced to have with a man named Thomas. Doro wants to force Anyanwu to see how good she’s had it with him so she brings him to Thomas. Chapter nine brings its focus back to Nweke and her transitioning. Through looking at her transition, Doro is reminded of his transition. His transition was at the age of thirteen a very young age. He takes pleasure in using his powers for evils such as killing. Anyanwu was the opposite of Doro, she was not born to kill. We learned about the relationships Doro builds with these people with power. They worship him. We also see the relationship of Nweke and Doro is like that of a father and son, which is strange because he molested her in chapter seven. In the end of this chapter as Nweke finishes up her transition, she kills Isaac along the process. In chapter ten we learn Nweke died as well. Anyanwu mourns her losses.
Wild Seed, Chapters 5-6
[edit]Isaac is Doro’s most prized possession. Isaac’s strength and power is more unique to Doro than his other two sons. This can be seen from the death of Lale, whose ability was to control the minds of others. With all these special abilities that run in the genes of this family, Doro was determined to reproduce. Anyanwu has the ability to shape-shift. At first, Doro felt powerless when it came to Anyanwu but he knew she was the one who could fulfill his desire to reproduce. Anyanwu takes it upon herself to transform into a dolphin, where she learned that dolphins are similar to humans. Isaac loved to feed on dolphin flesh. This changed immediately as Anyanwu declared she would have nothing to do with Isaac if he continued. Being in love with Anyanwu, Isaac obeyed. At the start, Anyanwu was supposed to make children with Doro but Doro preferred for her to make them with Isaac. Isaac was ecstatic by the news but Anyanwu felt it was wrong of her to do so. Feeling betrayed by Doro, Anyanwu eventually gave into the wrongful temptation.

[edit]During a time of segregation, Octavia Butler accomplished her dream of becoming an American science fiction writer. Growing up with insecurities such as dyslexia and not knowing how to communicate with her fellow peers, made Butler feel useless. Her interest in science fiction derived from her childhood interest of fairy tales and horse stories. Her mother wanted her to become a secretary but that did not stop Butler from pursuing her dream. The push she needed to inspire her to continuing pursing her dream was when she won her first 15$ for a college wide short-story contest. She published her first work in 1971 and then sold a short story. After this, Butler unfortunately went through rejections and stress. It wasn't until a while that Butler's career sky rocketed. She went on the write series and trilogies. This granted her a prize of 295,000 Butler grew up during a period of segregation and as a child who didn't feel like she belonged, but did not stop her from accomplishing her dream. What impressed me the most is that how Hard she worked to pursue her dreams even tho all odds where against her.
