Article Evaluation:
The Female American
- The factual information integrated into the article was helpful.
- However, the article seemed to stray off topic at some points. There was a mix or relevant information and information that was just fillers.
- Also, ideas of feminism seem to be part of the editor’s opinion. How feminism is used in the novel has elements of another voice. The article in not neutral in this way.
- There are sections where the actions of Eliza aren’t perceived objectively, but through an individual lens.
- · Eliza is the protagonist; however, I feel like her views are underrepresented. Reading through the summary and themes, it is clear that Eliza is recognized as the novel's main character, but her story fades into the background. The article is focused on how other characters function in relation to Eliza. The role of other characters is foregrounded.
- · The citations' links work correctly, but there are very few citations. If one wanted to do research on the novel, the links would not provide much info, or indirectly link to other works.
- ·There is not much going on behind the scenes, considering there has only been one editor. However, maybe with the addition of the Xavier student editor, this problem will change.
- ·The article is a part of WikiprojectNovels. The editors aim to build a solid foundation for the novels and compile accurate information.
- ·In our course, the discussion revolved around Eliza and how her actions contributed to the overarching themes within the novel. The Wikipedia page, on the other hand, focused on other characters.
- Overall, the article helps the reader gain a comprehension of the text, but the writing seems very personal and skewed in certain sections. The word choice used to describe certain characters use words associated with negativity, when the description should be neutral.
Abolitionism
- Abolitionism is a vast topic. The reasoning behind it, polices, literature, and significant figures are of the utmost importance. Similarly, I plan to add to these areas. I plan to add information about important figures during Abolitionism; I also want to expand on how literature correlates to the topic. At the end of the editing stage - I want the article to present an unbiased view of information about the previous things.
- Outline:
Abolitionism
- There needs to be a simplistic overview of the topic. What does Abolitionism mean? Why was it a movement? Who was involved in the movement? Similar to an abstract. This section needs to be around a two paragraphs.
Where Did the movement start?
- In the article, France is discussed first. There needs to be a clear sectioning of the places well-known for the abolitionism campaign.
- Also, these places have relevance because of the campaign. Keep it correlated with this topic.
History is detailed, but needs to be simplified and not in huge chunks.
Important Figures
- There is a list of the abolitionists, however, there needs to be something written about them in the specific section. A reader needs to know how these figures related to the movement without jumping to a new page.
Missing From Article:
- There is an overall lack of simplistic language. Some of the language is convoluted; I hope to fix this. Also, maybe make sure each section is easily follow able; similar to topic sentences. Lastly, there needs to be information about important figures on that page!!! ALSO, is it possible to add general dates at the top of sections - maybe it will be easier to understand that way?
