Plot
In the rural areas of south east in Nigeria, two brothers live with their families opposite each other in their late father’s compound. Onye Eze (Nkem Owoh), being the youngest of both brothers, envies his older brother and his sons because of the fortune and happiness they have. Meanwhile Onye Eze lives with his earsplitting wife and disobedient son Ikenna (Chukwudi Okolo). Onye Eze detests that his brother is a better hunter and farmer than he is, also that his two sons are more respectful than his own is. Onye Eze cooks up a plan to shoot his older brother during a hunting trip late at night. He successfully carries out his plan and tells the whole village that a wild chimpanzee, with no chance of escaping, attacked his brother. He even plants footprints in the sand with his fingers to make the attack look realistic. Since Onye Eze is the next of kin, he inherits all of his brother’s property as according to traditional rights. Chidi (Promise Odika) and Ifedi (Ozo Akubueze) the children of Onye eze’s brother become orphans and begin to live with their uncle Onye Eze. He and his loudmouth wife begin to maltreat the children by giving them hard labor, depriving their education and verbal abuse. Meanwhile, Ikedi is caught by Feoma (Hilda Dokubo) as he steals someone elses palmwine and goes to report him to villagers embarassing the father, Onye Eze. Onye Eze places a curse on Feoma’s daughter Nneoma (Blessing Nnaji) that makes her steal wherever she goes. This results in Nneoma being caught and getting stoned to death by the villagers for stealing an item from the king’s palace. Onye Eze sends his nephew Ifedi to work as an assistant to learn bike repairing and forces his other nephew Chidi to be the servant of his best friend and partner in wicked crime, Adindu (Victor Osuagwu). While Adindu is cruel to Chidi, Adindu’s wife (Rita Edochie) is very sweet with him and sympathizes with him everyday. Soon Onye Eze and Adindy begin planning the death of Chidi as they conclude that he will soon begin to ask for his part of his father’s inheritance that he is entitlted too as the first son of his father. However, all their plans fail because of supernatural interventions. Things take a turn for the worst for Onye Eze when a priest reveals to Feoma that her daughter was cursed and her son will be cursed too if she doesn’t commit to prayers daily. Feoma takes his advice and her prayers result in a counter attack that leaves Onye Eze blinded. When Onye Eze becomes blind, his wife leaves him immediately claiming, “All his evil deeds have finally caught up with him”. The movie ends with Onye Eze crying out for help. There is a sequel to the movie Onye Eze, titled Onye Eze part 2. The sequel includes the ending of this dramatic film with supernatural touch. It is available now on VCD.
