Formed in 2008, Acid Elephant is a stoner rock band from Pori, Finland. In addition to an early EP, they have released a debut full length album, "Guerrilla Drive Valley" on Aavikkoelefantti in CD format and digtal download in 2011, and a live album "Defenestration of a Dying Mammoth: aLive 2012" on Johnny Park Avenue Records in cassette format and free digital download in 2012. In 2013 the band announced the release of their second studio album (title TK) for fall the same year.
Having had their sound described as "heavy as a dying, overweight mammoth", the band takes its most notable influences from such acts as Colour Haze, Circle, Truckfighters and Boris, but also nodding their heads to the direction of classic desert rock names such as Kyuss, Brant Bjork and Yawning Man.
History
[edit]Acid Elephant was formed in Pori, Finland in 2008 by bassist Miksa, drummer Roope and guitarist Ojis. In 2009 they were supplemented with guitarist-vocalist Ilpo, who subsequently replaced Ojis as lead guitarist in 2010 after the emergence of severe artistic differences between Miksa and Ojis, resulting in Ojis' departure from the band.
Following the studio sessions of their upcoming album and the release of their live album in 2012, Ilpo announced he would be leaving the band in pursuit of a work career. In late 2012, guitarist Tuomas and keyboard player Elis joined the band, completing its third lineup, unofficially dubbed "crippled phoenix". During 2012 the band tried several vocalists, of whom Mikaela "Minnie" Wissing - a bandmate of Tuomas and Elis from Åbo Akademi's student orchestra - stood in for the band's live performances in spring 2013 and wrote some music with them. As of July 2013 the band was yet again without a vocalist, and it is the unofficial consensus that the band has no steady vocalist, but only featuring artists.
