The article Digital addict covers a very important topic in technology today which is the addiction to digital technology.

The article is very informative in terms of describing digital technology addiction and proving the readers with some behaviors as well as impacts of digital addiction. By having a clear definition of the term “Digital addict” from various angles, the readers have a better understanding of the topic before diving deeper into the rest of the article.

The Discourse section covers the possible negative side effects of overusing digital technology. This section raises the concern of technology addiction and argues that the side effects are harmful to both the mental and physical well being of the addicts.  Many claims about digital addition are supported with some studies from public institutions such as the University of Maryland or the American Academy of Pediatrics in children under the age of two. Some supporting cases about the consequences of using technology at a young age are highlighted under the last section “Children using digital devices”. The cases argue that there is a decrease in physical extracurricular activities from young children due to the fact that they spend too much using digital technology. All these points mentioned above contribute to the overall strength of the article as they provide the readers with facts and references which are relevant to the topic.

Although the article provides some supporting facts about the addiction to digital technology, I feel that the references to those facts could be based on more tangible sources. A good example would be the research showing that because of the use of new technological devices, children are more likely to be obese. They are also more likely to develop a muscle with poor strength due to the amount of hours spent starring at their devices. I think having some references to a research and statistics from various credible sources would help supporting these facts better.

I also feel like that whole article doesn’t mention the positive side of using digital devices when it comes to children. I do believe there are some positive outcome in using digital devices. Children who are proficient with digital devices could learn easier through digital interactive games. The overemphasis on the negative consequences of digital addiction throughout the entire article may appear to some readers as biased, specially if the readers are technology enthusiasts.

Overall I think the article shines the light on an issue in our society today which originates from the progress of technology. However, the article lacks tangible researches from multiple credible sources which could have a better impact on the readers.

The use of technology by children can also contribute to the overall improvements of motor skills. By playing interactive games and knowing how to navigate through a screen using buttons, children are able to learn how to coordinate their brains with their fingers. [1]
