Interstate 87 (I-87) is a proposed Interstate Highway, officially designated by on May 25, 2016 by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). It is tentatively planned to run from Raleigh, North Carolina to Norfolk, Virginia along the current routes of U.S. Route 64, U.S. Route 17, U.S. Route 264, and Interstate 495.
On June 10, 2014, Representative G.K Butterfield introduced House Bill 4829 which made the routing from Raleigh to Williamston and then to Norfolk a high priority corridor in the National Highway System.
