A Naval station is a geographic command responsible for conducting all naval operations within its defined area. It may consist of flotillas, or squadrons, or individual ships under command.[1]
The British Royal Navy for command purposes was separated into a number of stations or fleets, each normally under an admiral, vice admiral, rear admiral or commodore for those stations deemed strategically important .[2]. Minor naval stations normally served as sub-commands to the larger station these would normally be commanded by a naval officer in charge of captain rank or below.
Note:In regards to subordinate listing only the last station the command reported to is shown for example the Aden station through out its history was under six different higher commands. For a full list of stations they were part of see the relevant articles.
