Concept and creation

[edit]

The series' co-creator Matt Bozon has acknowledged that at his time in the United States of America, there was rarely ideas features a female character as the center of the plot however, after watching Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, he thought "isn't it okay for girls to be the center of the story?"[1]

During the development of Shantae and the Seven Sirens, Matt Bozon felt that it's the right time to move away from the series' main setting of Sequin Land and explore more of the Half-Genie concept.[4]
