This profile on IMFK’s founder, John Tumiro, narrates how he transitioned from being a local chef to establishing a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding homeless individuals. Tumino’s interactions with the homeless folks in Syracuse, as well as his own personal struggles with addiction and homelessness help readers understand what prompted IMFK’s creation. This dissertation from Yuying Wei examines the resources that elders need who became homeless in later life in Syracuse. She explains that some individuals who fall into homelessness after the age of 50 are likely to refuse services due to added shame, and most of this group is unaware of the services that they have access to. In my Wikipedia article, this will be an interesting analysis of the people that IMFK strives to help. Homeless elderly folks are an often underlooked group in need, and it’s necessary to understand their prevalence in the local community.
