From March to April of 2009 Wikipedia lost 23,000 of it's 100,000 editors according to a report by Felipe Ortega, an academic working at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid (quoted in an article entitled "Wikipedia web start to tangle" by Murad Ahmed in the The Press, 28th November 2009, pB5) Ortega says "the articles are very tightly controlled by others now, and that makes it hard to jump in and contribute".
