Haven't rolled my own yet
[edit]Not a ref template, but let's play...
Example, for Ed Zander prior to 2008:
s-start s-new s-inc s-end
Produces
Some example parameters:
recent
And I could summarize:
Switch from succession box to template:s-start

(equivalent to $ in ).

Common summaries
[edit]rv good faith edit, but "avoiding redirs" is neither necessary nor desirable: see Wikipedia:Redirect#Do not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken
rv good faith edit, but see WP:MOSDAB - only one navigable link per line on disambiguation pages
-bolding in lead, per WP:BOLDTITLE, WP:LEADSENTENCE
-redundant use of article name in section names, per MOS:NOBACKREF
-redundant material unnecessary for disambiguation, per MOS:DABENTRY
Fix "This is a list" (MOS:THISISALIST, WP:BOLDTITLE); this also fixes WP:TITLEABSENTBOLD as collateral undamage
WP:SOB/WP:SPECIFICLINK fixes
Remove redlink from "See also", since you can't also see it (MOS:SEEALSO)
MOS:TENSE fix -- even discontinued products should be in present tense (although past actions are of course in past tense).
WP:SDNOTDEF fix -- avoid repeating elements in the title; WP:SDNONE seems most appropriate here.
Red links are not bad per se; see WP:REDLINK. "Only remove red links if Wikipedia should not have an article on the subject" is a reasonable rule of thumb.
