Dante Galicia
[edit]David Jahaziel Galicia, or Dante Galicia, was born on February 24, 1989, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, the same day as Flag Day in Mexico. He was the youngest of three siblings and had two sisters older than him. His parents are descendants of the founders of the city of Monterrey, originating from Sephardic Jews of Portuguese and Spanish ancestry, thus giving him dual citizenship with both Mexican and Portuguese nationality.
Since childhood, Galicia showed a great love for the arts: music, drawing, painting, and was interested in world history. Such a character combined with an artistic mind and soul truly astonished all the people who knew him.
Academic Background
[edit]Galicia had two university majors: one in Marketing at Universidad Tecnológica de Escobedo (UTE) and the other in Graphic Design at Universidad del Valle de México.(Cumbres). He lived a life of frequent relocation for his father's work, which meant he had lived in various cities across Mexico and experienced many cultures. During his adolescence, he lived in Canada, in cities such as Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal -enriching experiences for his worldwide open-mindedness.
Professional Career
[edit]In 2015, Galicia moved to New York City after receiving a job offer. During a visit to Lincoln Center, inspired by the nearby Dante Parkand his admiration for Dante Alighieri, he adopted the name Dante as part of his artistic and professional identity. He began working in advertising agencies and prominent fashion houses, where he developed his passion for design and fashion.
Founding of Dante Galicia
[edit]In 2020, during the pandemic, he created his brand: Dante Galicia. First, the company was dedicated to face masks with designs inspired by the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mexico, which raised a lot of popularity during that time. Later, he developed other products for the brand: high-quality silk scarves based on the tradition of the Tree of Life, "Árbol de la Vida". With bold and daring designs, Galicia uses his work to express the beauty and vitality of life through high-quality silk.
Legacy and Philosophy
[edit]Dante Galicia, a multidisciplinary creator who mixes his roots and cultural heritage with today's modernity, advances incessantly with a brand in the process of evolution, making the lines of his designs grow influenced by the great cultural variety that exists around the world. In fact, history and veneration of culture position him in his art as a designer with a promising future.
