He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. Is not life a hundred times too short for us to bore ourselves? - Nietzsche
"Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome."
Political slant
Progressivism founded on common sense. I believe in self-discipline and free enterprise. I believe there are grave social injustices. These are not mutually contradictory. I am uncomfortable with the idea of a self-identified transgender individual teaching children. I abhor pedophiles. I believe homosexuality should be neither persecuted nor promoted. I believe in the existence of deviance and that it should in some cases be suppressed. In other words, I believe that some amount of social conformity is healthy. I think growing up includes dealing with the realities of our lives: that we probably cannot change human nature or the world and that strong emotions we feel may have some legitimate basis in injustice but are also just a sign of immaturity. I think bright young students at good universities would do well to leave the Ivory Tower for at least five years before making any grand pronouncements about Life.
> Capital punishment is abhorrent.
> Gender is not a political construct, but a biological fact.
> Sexuality is the fundamental force beneath human behavior, and thus inspires very strong feelings. However, as we grow up, we learn not to challenge its realities but to accept them.
> Men have a higher capacity for pure rational thought than women, as evidenced by the fact that 99% of mathematical and physics (i.e., pure logic) breakthroughs have been the accomplishment of XY-chromosome brains.
> Wikipedia has a strong systematic bias towards concepts which exist purely in academic and activist realms.
> Basically left-wing thought as it exists today is disorganized and confused. Liberalism is by definition about promoting free speech and self-determination. Now there is a cacophany of voices, oftentimes uninformed about the intellectual traditions of the West, including Kant, Nietzsche, John Stuart Mill, Aristotle, Plato, all of whom are not simply dead white men, but rationalists who have made specific contributions to human liberty.
I believe human society can be improved; and I hope that in my life I work to make the world a better place. But just as Communism proved destructive of human life, (at least thus far), so, too, progressivism must be founded on a basic understanding of human nature. We cannot stop street harassment by encouraging people to take pictures of strangers; we must stop it by incentives and education.
