[1]As an active participant of the Gold Star Wives, Eleanor Roosevelt wrote in her "My Day" column the organizations activities she participated in. She opened her column up to the discussions that would arise due to the organization as being one led by women for women. As a grieving wife of a husband who served in the army she understood the complexity of everyone's feeling towards the government, grief, and war. She discusses one of her conversations she had with a Gold Star Mother in her column on her feelings towards the representation of the Gold Star Mothers/Wives and the complex feeling of being abandoned by your country during your time of grief.
