MARTYR KAMALA MIRI was a Freedom fighter of the Indian Independence Movement. He was son of Late Sikho Miri , hailed from a very backward area called OPORTEMERA Mising village under Rangamati Mauza in Golaghat district , Assam.
Like Other Leaders of the Freedom Movement he took active Part in the Movement of 1942. His Team of workers Consisted Mostly of Mising Youths Like Boloram Pau, Kula Pathori, Abhiram Pau, Basu Pau, Adik Morang, Bepung Pathori, Dhonaram Loying, Chenikan Loying, Malidhar Doley, Sondhon Pegu, Soru Taid , Sambhuram Morang and Two Girls Viz, Pramila Kaman and Bogimola Morang.
In 1943 He along with his Acquintances Started an Indefinite Fasting In Jorhat Jail Following Gandhiji's Fasting from 9th February 1943. He has Full faith on Gandhi and Followed his Principles in every Prospect.
Due To the Fasting His Physical Condition Deteriorate due to Heart Ailment. The Jail Authority Try to Persuade Him to apply for release by sigming a Bond but He turned Deaf ear to it and undauntedly replied " If I am To Die ! I would Die here in prison but would not sign Disgracing the Nation. I Shall Get out of Prison only when India Attains Freedom. "
Martyr Kamala Miri always demanded justice for exploited and backward classes of the region from British rule. He used to bring awarness against drugs,Aphing,banned foreigners cargo cloths.He was also associated with the activities of derailed British railway. The follower of Mahatna Gandhi,Kamala Miri always supported Swadeshi Andulon,Quit India Movement,Non Violence movement. Bravely associated with the protests, picketing and raised slogan in front of British Police outpost then.
"I MOVE LIKE A HERO AND DIE LIKE A HERO"-it's the signature voice against the colonial ruler. The real hero of Indian soil, Kamala Miri was admitted to the Jail on 13th October,1942 . He breathed his last breathe in Midnight of 22 April 1943 at Jorhat Jail in the Lap of Narendra Nath Sharma a Co- Prisoner.
