Sociology 101 Project

1. Objective: I propose to create a Flickr journal showing the spiritual life around Ohio University. 2. Interest: We know Athens to be a very liberal, hippy town and it will be interesting to see how spirituality plays a part in different college student's lives and which are the predominant religions at Ohio University. 3. Background reading: I will read the Sociology text book, the Ohio Universty website, Wikipedia etc. 4. General plan: We plan to go around campus taking photos of churches, religious centers, religious monuments and events/speeches on region and pretty much anything with a religious undertone. 5. Collaborators: I will be working with Adres Ruiz (Ru_An_Spring_2008)

Alternative idea -

  1. Objective: I propose to investigate the different college experiences from students who come from a different cultural, economic, and predominantly urban setting.  
  2. Interest: This is interesting because it will allow students in this class to experience college life from a different perspective and be more culturally in tune with other people. This is relevant because college is firstly a 'step-up' in education and secondly the ratio of non-whites attending college is considerably smaller to those from other cultures/backgrounds. 
  3. Background reading I will read wikipedia, text book and other basic sociology texts on the following topics:
        1. I will also find scholarly research on the general issue of (for example, violence in video games). Posting links here.
        2. I will find popular press discussions of my topic. Perhaps Wikipedia articles, blog entries, newspaper and magazine stories, etc.
  4. General Plan I plan to. . .describe the major next steps to get the project done. If working in a team, specify the parts that you plan to do.
  5. Collaborators: I will be working with Andres Ruiz.
