I have pursued several causes, activities, and pastimes.
American Red Cross (ARC) Board Member - I guided the building of our Mass Care function that led to successfully opening and manning a shelter and feeding hundreds during the 2008 Hurricane Ike Windstorm.
Disaster Action Team (DAT) Leader / Duty Worker - I conceived and promoted the restructuring of our office PBX to allow volunteer DAT Leaders to absorb the paid function of Duty Worker.
I designed a volunteer and class tracking database in Microsoft ACCESS in a Windows XP environment with several screens using multi-level table references (all self-taught).
Disaster Instructor - I scheduled and taught over 30 classes in 2 1/2 week period to prepare our Hurricane Katrina volunteers to travel and provide shelter and mass care.
Client Casework Coordinator - Conceived and developed the capability for our Disaster Team to enter client information and activate Client Cards in the field (the regional office doesn’t do this).

I set up an amateur radio station in the Chapter that included HF, VHF, UHF, APRS, and PSK31.
In addition to serving my local chapter I have served nationally on several disasters in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Florida each for periods exceeding a month. In New York City I served in excess of 5 months for the World Trade Center (9/11) as a case work supervisor and as a supervisor on our national Hotline.
Local amateur radio assn. Vice President - Conceived and led effort to greatly improved repeater coverage. Conceived and organized a Special Event station honoring the founding of 4H.

Miscellaneous I hold an Extra class FCC Amateur Radio license and am an active volunteer examiner. I have operation-level hazardous material training, several FEMA ICS course certifications, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. Each year I participate in multiple Field day operations.
Board Member of the local park district friends group - As president I worked to organize opposition to a proposed merger with the city system. Conceived and led effort to rail bank an abandoned segment to become a scenic trail.
Physical accomplishments Lost almost 50 lbs. (1/4 body weight) and maintaining it after 4 years, self-directed, by diet and exercise alone. Recently, achieved a personal best of bicycling 150 miles in 24 hours.
