Hi and welcome to my User page. I am Marie A. Vitulli. I am an Emerita Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oregon, where I taught since 1976. My main area of expertise is commutative algebra with a particular interest in problems arising from questions in algebraic geometry. I created and continue to manage The Women in Math Web Project https://pages.uoregon.edu/wmnmath. I have served on various committees of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and have been very active in the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) for many years. I served on the Executive Committee of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) from February 1, 2010 until January 31, 2016 and was Chair of the Policy and Advocacy Committee of the AWM during that same time. I am rejoining the Executive Committee as Media Coordinator as of February 1,2019. My work in commutative algebra and for advancing the work of women in mathematics was recognized by the AWM and MAA by my selection to deliver the Etta Z. Falconer Lecture at the MathFest in August 2014. MathFest is the annual summer meeting of the MAA. I was the recipient of an AWM Service Award in January of 2017. I was selected as a Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics in the Class of 2019 Fellows. I was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in the 2020 class.
I have a special interest in increasing the visibility of prominent women mathematicians in Wikipedia. I plan to create more biographies of women in mathematics and computer science and will continue to edit existing biographies to improve their content. I assisted Ursula Whitcher at the first AWM women in math edit-a-thon at the 2017 AWM Research Symposium on April 8-9, 2017 at UCLA. I conducted a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at Clemson University on January 26, 2019 and at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Denver, Colorado on January 17, 2020.
