Sungha Jung (born September 2, 1996) is a South Korean, child prodigy fingerstyle guitarist. He has developed his audience by posting over 260 performance videos to YouTube prior to his fourteenth birthday. Many of these demonstrate his advanced musical and technical ability on the guitar. As of July 2010, his videos have had over 145,359,813 views.
Primarily, a self-taught guitarist, Sungha started playing at age 10 and learned by watching videos of other guitarists on YouTube without the use of sheet music.[1] Most of his videos are of Sungha performing arrangements of other guitarists. These are largely note by note recreations of their videos, but are impressive nonetheless. Recently, Sungha has posted videos of his own original compositions. Through his prolific number of videos one can witness his growth and development as a guitarist.
By posting Sungha videos of his performance of others guitarists arrangements, he has established personal friendships with those guitarists that have led to performances together. This is the case with Ulli Boegershausen from Germany and Trace Bundy from USA. Sungha lives in Chung-Ju, South Korea[2]. Sungha has performed at the Mr. Big Live Concert in Korea at Olympic Gymnasium Stadium (2009.10.2), 2009 Bangkok Acoustic Guitar Celebration (2009.10.31), and 2010 Seoul Jazz Festival (2010.5.15). Sungha has performed on multiple occasions with world re-known guitarist Tommy Emmanuel.
Sungha has released his debut album entitled "Perfect Blue".
