In 1974, several Values candidates ran for office in Auckland's local government elections. Lawyer Reg Clough[1] stood as a Councillor, while four other candidates stood for the Hospital Board: Cherry Raymond (journalist and broadcaster) and Dr. Rex Hunton (medical director of the Auckland Medical Aid Centre)[2] stood in the Auckland City ward; Keith Langton (lawyer) and Wayne Facer (university administrator) were in Waitemata City ward. Raymond was the strongest contender - receiving over 10,000 votes - though not enough to win a seat. Hunton was further back in the middle of the field. While gaining solid support, Langton and Facer polled fewer than half than the winning candidates.
