The Montaines are an American pop rock band from Washington, DC. Formed in 2023, The Montaines draw influences from bands like The 1975, LCD Soundsystem and The National. Washington, DC new outlet The DCist (WAMU) describes the bands sound as "sticky guitar riffs and romantic songs about discontented youth".[1]

Career

[edit]

Formation

[edit]

In late 2023, Alec O'Brien asked his brother Jack O'Brien to help with writing and playing new songs he'd been working on recording. Alec wanted to move to playing live shows and recruited guitarist Luke DeCresce to the band. Shortly after forming The Montaines went to Ivakota Studios in Washington, DC to record their debut EP, Normal People. After playing DC staple venues such as DC9,.[2] the band finalized its lineup adding bassist Seamus Mulcahy and drummer Charlie Christoffersen to the band. The bands name comes from the French word for mountains[1]

Normal People EP

[edit]

Their debut EP Normal People was released in November 2023. Recorded at Ivakota Studios in Capitol Hill, the EP was influenced "primarily [by] bands from the early 2010s indie scene that they grew up listening to: The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, and The Strokes"[1]. The Montaines live performances have quickly gained them recognition within the DC scene.
