History
[edit]The rivalry is one of the more recent one in the league, with Wexford only having been founded in 2007. It is one of the less fierce rivalries in the League of Ireland, with Waterford fans being more focused on their rivalries with Cork City and Treaty (and formerly Limerick), although the rivalry has been rekindled in recent years with support for both clubs growing, and since Waterford's most recent return to the First Division, and subsequent failure to gain promotion back to the Premier Division.[2]
The first meeting between the two clubs was on the 2nd of April 2007, when Waterford ran out 3-0 winners vs Wexford Youths in their inaugural season, in a League of Ireland Cup First Round tie.[3]
