An estate of a small house with a garden, it has been described as a "typically unselconcious Pomerol vineyard".[2]
Its origin dates to 1734, when it was known simply as 'Reney'. belonged to the Lasserre family for 6 generations. 1942 Pierre Lasserre joined forces with Denis Durantou's grandmother, owner of Chateau L'Eglise Clinet
A small estate in Bordeaux context, Clos Rene was late to incorporate estate bottling as in the 50s, 60s and into the 70s the estate preferred to sell off its wine in cask.[2]
Alexis Lichine included Clos René among eighteen grands crus of Pomerol in his unofficial Bordeaux classification.[2][3]
run by Pierre Lasserre and his grandson Jean-Marie Garde
with Michel Rolland as consulting oenologist.[4]
Wine writer Tom Stevenson describes Clos René as "an underrated wine, it represents good value", and "sometimes complex in structure, and are always of excellent quality".[1]
