Update: April 2012
[edit]The reason I wrote this essay was mainly in response to all the offenders of this kind, but there was also especially a particular individual in mind. This person used some of the practices mentioned above, such as IP hopping and a lack of worthy discussion; he or she did this for at least three years and three months, usually every few days or so if active. This was extremely irritating. In April 2012, this individual became suspended from their Internet Service Provider for this specific reason. As of yet, I have not discerned any known activity from this person since. That is the sort of action that can be taken against genre warriors, if necessary; observe this course of events as a reason not to perform genre warring, because learning from this person's actions is better than learning the hard way to not genre war, like this individual did.
Update: July 2012
[edit]I still believe genre warring is shameful. That's no surprise. However, continual bickering is not quite productive, either. A recent bout with this resulted in a way-too-long feud, with Wikipedia's guidelines being used against editors, and an accusation that I was a genre warrior. While my methods have been to "crack down" and even be a little bit radical, I guarantee this does not make me a genre warrior. Being accused and maybe even defamed can sometimes be a part of fighting this ignominious practice. Thing is, fighting, though. Is fighting really necessary in order to get a point across? I personally am sick of feuding about such frivolity, and it's not the reason I signed up for this website. Fighting, feuding, bickering is not what is best for Wikipedia, especially concerning genre warring. I will continue to stand against genre warring, but I don't want to fight the people doing it. I'm just sick of all the bickering, stress, and harassment that is attached to trying to decrease and discredit this loathsome activity. To be honest, I don't know if I've ever been so defamed, disrespected, and exploited during my entire stay on Wikipedia. Nonetheless, adversity and exploitation is a part of life.
Update II (August 2012)
[edit]Now that that situation is in the past, and I'm less upset now than I was when I wrote the July 2012 update, what happened on those pages was rather absurd and stupid. One individual, a genre warrior who was permanently blocked, went outside of Wikipedia to "express his frustrations". Although this discord was of quite inconvenience, I can look back at some of it and find humor, because this person did not really do that much while "expressing his frustrations"; while doing so, he made him/herself look quite silly instead of validly and legitimately getting his/her point across. It makes me wonder how and why some people spend their time doing this instead of more productive activity.
