Dr. Salman Ibrahim Esaa: Born in Baghdad (1930 – 2001), earned his Diploma in Calligraphy and Decoration in Baghdad in 1959, then obtained his second Diploma in Museum Arts studies with First Class Honors from the USA making him the first Arab with that title. He received Master’s degree with Honors from the academy of Arts Warsaw University 1969, and PhD in Archaeology in the same University in 1972.
He was one of many distinct Calligraphers in Iraq, an Artist, a member and head, cofounder of Calligraphist Association for more than ten years. Author of The Environmental Art, University of Baghdad, 1990. A contributor to publish The Traditional Iraqi Art, including a book on teaching the art of Calligraphy, becoming Iraq’s first teacher in Calligraphy after death of Hashim Mohammad Al-Baghdadi. He has also Established more than twenty private exhibitions, and thirty joint exhibitions inside and outside the country, as he has a large and unique collection of Turkish and Arab calligraphies whom are renowned for their art.
Mr. Salman AL-Khattat had great interest in global scientific topics related to fabric printing and ornamentation, observing and studying ancient monuments and he has also dedicated to share some translation work along with others in these fields. He was famous for his large sized portraits and drawings using Pentalite paint. Some of his art works are displayed throughout government offices, such as Iraq’s Endowment Sector. In honoring his past legacy, his student Redwan bahiyah has dedicated a book titled “My Memories with Dr Salman Al-Khattat”, 2020, displaying Al-khattat’s art in various events.
