The term "The Facebook Slap" or just "Facebook Slap" is a term that I recently invented to describe the large number of users having their facebook accounts limited, suspended or locked due to a violation of the Facebook Terms of Service (TOS) a.k.a. "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities".
You can find them listed at the bottom of every facebook page by clicking on the "terms" link.
The term is an evolution of a situation which has occurred over the past few years by the internet giant GOOGLE who changed or limited the accounts of thousands of users of their popular Adwords advertising program.
Like Google before it, "The Facebook Slap" comes with no warning. And, after it happens to you or your account the user is often left feeling very hopeless, frustrated, angry and helpless.
As of the writing of this article (April 2010) Facebook has now become the number 1 website in terms of Page Views in the world, and all indications are that it's popularity will continue to grow. Especially with the advent and popularity of such games as mafia wars, farmville, etc.
Because of it's prominence, both individuals and businesses have come to count on Facebook for a variety of purposes. It has become an integral part of peoples lives, and for the business owner, an essential element of their overall marketing success. Tremendous amount of information is typically stored in an owners facebook account. Information that may not be stored elsewhere. Thus, any banning or suspending of these accounts can be devastating.
Since this concept is fairly new and constantly evolving, I will be adding to this page as more information comes forward.
