The thirteenth season of the American horror anthology television series American Horror Story, subtitled Gartner, is centered around the fictitious titular Gartner family, wealthy and old members of the United States, and their multiple attempts to maintain their supremacy.

Plot

Jenny Walsh, a waiter, receives an anonymous letter revealing that her biological mother lives in New Orleans. She enlists private detective Dalton Kane and her best friend Harper Pearce to investigate the accuracy of the information. They discover that she is a member of the Gartner family and that her mother is Meredith Gartner, heir to the family money. Jenny decides to travel to New Orleans and face the family members, specially Meredith, to understand why she could not be part of the family and has to live a poor life. Jenny's presence causes a rift between the family members and leads the way to Robin and John Wheeler, two of the Gartners enemies.

To understand the history of the Gartner family, Jenny travels to Los Angeles with Leslie and Seymour to visit Billie Dean Howard. The medium explains that the Gartner family is "child" to the Montgomery family. Ellen Montgomery, an author who rebelled against her peers, started the Gartner empire alongside husband Henry. They are Mary Alice's grand-grandparents. Billie Dean takes Jenny, Leslie, and Seymour to the Murder House and introduces them to Charles and Nora Montgomery, who, unbeknownst to them, are ghosts.
