From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quran is regarded as the literal word of God by Muslims, unlike the Bible's significance to Christians. It holds complete authority over Muslims and requires the implementation of Allah's law, known as Sharia Law. Failure to adhere to this law designates one as an infidel, punishable by death. The Quran is divided into two sections: the Meccan portion, written during Mohammed's time in Mecca with approximately 100 followers over 15 years, and the Medinan portion, composed after he relocated to Yathrib, later known as Medina, where he formed an army. In the case of contradictions, the principle of Abrogation applies, where later verses take precedence over earlier ones. Non-abrogated verses, referred to as “Ayat Muhkamat” or Fixed Verses, are to be followed. Unfortunately, extremist groups like Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Taliban, and Islamic Republic use these texts, leading to ongoing tragedies. While some Muslims may disagree with killing apostates or homosexuals, discrimination and prosecution against them are widely accepted. The origin of Sharia Law lies in the Quran and Sunna, which can be harsh and brutal.

Islamophobia refers to an irrational fear of Islam. As someone who has practiced Islam for 24 years and lived in a "democratic Islamic" country where activities like going to bars and clubs are permitted despite being prohibited in Islam, I had to leave for my own safety. The following information only represents a fraction of the larger picture, as there are even more distressing aspects. Additionally, there are individuals who harbor aspirations of invading other countries, yet deny any connection between ISIS and Islam. It is important to bear this in mind. The following points outline various teachings and interpretations found within Islamic texts.

Introduction

[edit]

Whenever someone reads the Quran, they'll always run across contradictions like this:

"For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."[Quran 109:06]

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are subdued/humiliated."[Quran 9:29]

The verse (Al-Kafirun 6) is a Meccan Verse and considered abrogated based on the Quran's own rule (Al-Baqarah: 106).

Most Sunni and Shia scholars are aware of these abrogation, and further information can be found in texts such as Al-Nasikh Wa Al-Mansokh or Tafseer books.

According to Quran 5:44, those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are considered infidels.

Quran 3:19 states that Islam is the only religion acceptable to Allah.

Sex Slavery

[edit]

Slavery in Islam

"Slavery is a part of Islam...(those who argue that slavery is abolished are) ignorant, not scholars. They are merely writers. Whoever says such things is an infidel.

Although Islamic views on concubinage have varied, there are several verses in the Quran and several hadiths that permit Muslim men to own what is called "right hand possession" (ملك اليمين) that are always invoked in sexual context in the Quran and hadiths, all of which make it clear that it is about sex slavery. This is permitted in the case Muslims wage war on Infidels.[1][2]

Scholarly opinions:

And right hand posession: They are the slaves owned by those who owned them as slaves, male or female. And what is meant by his saying (or what their right hands possess): Women among the slaves, and they are slave girls, as their owner has the right to have intercourse with them without a marriage contract, no witnesses, or a dowry, so they are not husbands, so if they are fat (secrets), plural: secret.

Slavery has almost ended in our time, as there are no longer slaves or female slaves for known reasons, and this does not mean that the provisions of slavery are invalidated if there are reasons for it, such as jihad between Muslims and infidels. . Unless these legitimate reasons exist, the principle is that people are free.

In Quran:

  • "And those who guard their chastity, Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed"[Quran 70:29-30]
  • "Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess"[Quran 4:24]

In Hadiths:

that at the Battle of Hunain Allah's Messenger sent an army to Autas and encountered the enemy and fought with them. Having overcome them and taken them captives, the Companions of Allah's Messenger seemed to refrain from having intercourse with captive women because of their husbands being polytheists. Then Allah, Most High, sent down regarding that:" And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess (Quran 4:. 24)" (i. e. they were lawful for them when their 'Idda period came to an end.

Sunnis tend to view this as Sahih and have included it in Sahih Muslim.

Application by ISIS/Taliban/ETC:

Pedophilia

[edit]

The Quran defines an idda (period after divorce) for "those who did not menstruate" (Arabic: اللائي لم يحضن)[4][5] without defining a minimum age for marriage, while an authentic/sahih hadith describes Mohammed's marriage to Ayesha when she was six years old whilst saying he entered (i.e. had intercourse) with her while she was nine.[6][7][8]

  • "And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses; and (as for) the pregnant women, their prescribed time is that they lay down their burden; and whoever is careful of (his duty to) Allah He will make easy for him his affair."[Quran 65:4]
  • A hadith reports:[9]
The Prophet (ﷺ) engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.

Sunnis tend to view this as Sahih and have included it in Sahih Bukhari.

Animal Abuse

[edit]

Mohammed commanded the death of Black Dogs:[10][11]

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Were dogs not a species of creature I should command that they all be killed; but kill every pure black one.

Sunnis tend to view this as Sahih (Al-Albani) and have included it in Sunan Abi Dawud.

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ordered the killing of dogs and we would send (men) in Medina and its corners and we did not spare any dog that we did not kill, so much so that we killed the dog that accompanied the wet she-camel belonging to the people of the desert.

Sunnis tend to view this as Sahih and have included it in Sahih Muslim.

Religious freedom

[edit]
The Cyrus Cylinder is a proclamation of Cyrus the Great, who ruled much of the Middle East. Its advocacy of religious freedom has been claimed as the first declaration of human rights.[14]

While there are few Meccan (and abrogated) verses taken out of context that Muslims use to claim that Islam allows religious freedom, this is not true at all.

In many Islamic countries like Iran and Afghanistan the death penalty will be applied, in other countries you could get imprisoned (as a replacement for the death penalty) and at least prosecuted on the basis of "blasphemy" in the most open minded Islamic countries (such as Bahrain).

Homophobia

[edit]

Islamic Homophobia is the hatred of Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual individuals which is influenced by Islamic teachings and scriptures, these teachings increase the likelihood to discriminate against, prosecute, kill, and incite hatred against LGBT individuals in Islamic, Muslim majority countries, societies and communities.[15]

This hatred (influenced by scripture) affects even Gay and Lesbian Muslims disproportionally, homosexual and bisexual Muslims who hold on to their religion (for various reason such as fear of hell, indoctrination, not wanting to be considered an outcast; which is a result of apostasy laws in Islam as well).[citation needed]

Pre-Islamic Tolerance

[edit]

Historically, in many countries which are Muslim majority countries today, homosexuality was a non issue or at least not a major issue:

  • Egypt:
  • Persia:
  • Arabia:
  • Afghanistan:

In the Islamic Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties/empires, there were alo many homosexual caliphs (which is forbidden in Islam), and many of them also were into Pedastry and Sex slavery,[citation needed] pedastry which is still acceptable today in Afghanistan in the form of Bacha bazi and hinted in the Quran which also allows underage girls to be married,[citation needed] and the latter which is mentioned hundreds of times in Islamic scripture.[citation needed]

In Islamic Scripture

[edit]

Quran

[edit]

The Quran condemns homosexuality several times,[16][17] Quran 4:16 says that "if two among (men according to interpretations) caught engaging in the act, they should be punished,"[18] according to Tafseer books (Interpretation or exegesis books) from both Sunnis and Shias, this was abrogated by hadith that says they should be killed.[citation needed]

[edit]

Derogatory terms

[edit]

Arabic publications in majority of Arabic speaking Islamic countries insist to refer to Homosexuality and Homosexuals as:

  • Shudhudh (Arabic: شذوذ) or Shudhudh Jinsi (Arabic: شذوذ جنسي): used to refer to Paraphilia and sexual paraphilia respectively.[19][20][21][21]
  • Shadh Jinsian (Arabic: شاذ جنسيا - singular), Shawadh Jinsian (Arabic: شواذ جنسيا - plural): meaning sexual paraphilic(s).
  • Shadh (Arabic: شاذ - singular), and Shawadh (Arabic: شواذ - plural): Arabic meaning paraphilic(s), pervert(s) or deviant(s).

Which are terms used to denote "sexual paraphilia, perversion or deviation" such as Pedophilia.[19] these terms are used to refer to "homosexuals" in a derogatory and dehumanizing context,[21][20] contrary to using terms like:

Which are non-derogatory terms.

Other derogatory terms include:

  • Lewat (Arabic: لواط)- Arabic equivalent to "Sodomy" - a reference to the biblical and Quranic personage Lot.[21]
  • Luti (Arabic: لوطي) - Arabic equivalent to "Sodomite."[21]

Laws by region

[edit]

Gulf/Khaleej countries

[edit]

The Khaleeji countries are known for higher tolerance to differences, and the reduced application/enforcement of Islamic Sharia, which majority of Islamic penalties, such as cutting arms of a thief, the death penalty for apostasy, blasphemy, and homosexuality, all are not applied in majority of these countries. However, when it comes to apostasy and homosexuality then Islamic values suddenly matters, this means prosecuting apostates for blasphemy, imprisoning homosexuals and prosecuting via "immorality" (fujoor) laws in countries that do not have clear anti-gay laws.

- Quran 8:39 commands Muslims to fight until Islam dominates.

- Muslims are instructed to order people to do good and avoid evil (Quran 3:110) and are encouraged to change evil through their actions, speech, or at least in their hearts, which sometimes leads to involvement in others' affairs.

- Muslims are commanded to fight and fast, as both are enjoined upon them.

- Quran 33:59 instructs women to wear the jilbab/hijab to distinguish themselves and avoid abuse. Further interpretations can be found in texts like Tafseer Al-Tabary (Sunni) or Tafseer Al-Mizan (Shia).

- Sahih al-Bukhari 146 mentions Umar's request for the Hijab verse after he used to spy on Mo's women at night.

- Quran 7:81 condemns homosexuality and Quran 4:16 suggests punishment for men engaging in homosexual acts, though some interpretations claim it was abrogated by a hadith (Sunan Abi Dawud 38:4447, Albani 2350) that prescribes death for such acts, we know now that this is mainly influenced by biological reasons.

- Muslims are commanded to kill unbelievers, including apostates, and the same verse (Quran 9:5) is used to justify death for apostates and fighting unbelievers until they "submit."

- Mohammed is quoted in Sahih Bukhari 2946 as saying, "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: There is no god but Allah, and I am his prophet."

- Muslims are commanded to fight "people of the book" until they convert or pay the jizya (Quran 9:29), as recorded in historical Islamic sources.

- Mohammed is reported in Sahih Bukhari 3017 as saying, "Whoever changed his religion, kill him."

- Alcohol is considered haram (forbidden) according to Quran 5:90 and is punishable by lashes (Sahih Muslim 1706). However, certain Gulf countries tolerate alcohol consumption, except for individuals who are gay or apostates.

DETAILS:

🛑 To you is your religion and to me is my religion (Al-Kafirun 6) is a Meccan Verse + abrogated verse.

Or (no compulsion in religion), this naïve belief has become a tiring broken record that should be recited to us before talking about anything related to human rights or the like... They base their use of Verse No. (6) from Surat Al-Kafirun (To you is your religion and for me) as evidence, proof and reference for their claims.. But the truth of the matter is that this verse was abrogated... and its effect has expired... and here are the evidence and proofs:

Al-Qurtubi: This was before the order to fight, so it was abrogated by the verse of the sword.

Al-Jalalayn: This is before war was ordered.

Al-Shawkani: This verse is abrogated by the sword verse.

Al-Fayrouzabadi: It was abrogated by the verse of fighting and he fought them after that.

Al-Samarqandi: This was before he was commanded to fight, then it was abrogated by the verse of the fight.

Al-Baghawi: This verse is abrogated by the sword verse.

Ibn Attia: Abrogated from the verse of fighting.

Ibn al-Jawzi: Abrogated according to the commentators on the verse of the sword.

Al-Khazen: This verse is abrogated by the verse of fighting.

Abu Hayyan: Abrogated with the verse of the sword.

Al-Nisaburi: The surah is copied with the verse Al-Muqatil.

Al-Thaalibi: It was copied.

Ibn Adel: This order was abrogated by fighting.

Muqatil bin Suleiman: Abrogated by the verse of the sword in Bara’ah: “Slay the polytheists wherever you find them.” At-Tawbah: 5.

Al-Thalabi: This verse is abrogated by the sword verse.

Al-Halabi: This was abrogated by the order to fight.

Al-Gharnati: (to you your religion and for me my religion) i.e. you have your polytheism and I have my monotheism.

My question to the Muslims is: Do you not know that this verse has been abrogated, or are you lying to people? And who among you does not know that this surah is Meccan...?

🛑 Abrogation law

(106) We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allāh is over all things competent?

- English Meanings

🛑 And whoever does not judge by what Allāh has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers. (Quran 5:44)

(44) Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allāh] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allāh, and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price [i.e., worldly gain]. And whoever does not judge by what Allāh has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers.

- English Meanings

🛑 The only religion acceptable in the sight of "Allah" is Islam only (Quran 3:19):

"Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account."

- Quran 3:19

🛑 Quran commands to fight until the whole religion is to Allah (Islam prevailing):

"And fight them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah . And if they cease - then indeed, Allah is Seeing of what they do."

- Quran 8:39

🛑 Muslims are commanded to order people to do good and avoid evil (Quran 3:110) and to change evil (whatever forbidden in their religion) by their hands, tongue, or at least their heart. (Sahih Abi Dawud 4340)

(110) You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allāh. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.

- English Meanings

🛑 The commands to fight:

"Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not."

- Quran 2:216

Mohammed: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: There is no god but Allah, so whoever says: There is no god but Allah, his life and his property have been protected from me, except for his due."

- Sahih Bukhari 2946

📌 Why the veil was commanded:

Narrated `Aisha: The wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqi` at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. `Umar used to say to the Prophet (ﷺ) "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. One night Sauda bint Zam`a the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ) went out at `Isha' time and she was a tall lady. `Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes).

🛑 The purpose of the veil/garment/hijab:

📌 Free women should wear the jilbab/hijab so that they will be known (as free women and not slaves according to interpretations) and not be abused (Quran 33:59):

"O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful."

- Quran 33:59

📌 Tafseer Al-Tabary (Sunni) - Quran 33:59 | Al-Azab 59:

Bishr told us, he said, Yazid said: Saed said about Qatada, his saying: “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers." Allah told them if theh left to disguise "That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused" and it was if the possessed one (slave) passed they abused her, so Allah forbade the free women from looking like slaves.

📌 Tafseer Al-Mizan (Shia) - Quran 33:59 | Al-Azab 59:

The Almighty said: (O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down over them their outer garments) etc.

And His saying: (That is the best thing for them to know, and not to be harmed), i.e. to cover the whole body is closer to knowing that they are the people of concealment and righteousness, so that they do not harm, i.e. the people of immorality do not harm them by attacking them.

It was said: The meaning of this is closer than that they know that they are free Muslim women, and they are not subjected to considering that they are female slaves or non-Muslim women from the Book or others, and the first is closer.

🛑 The political (dangerous) purpose of the call to prayer is to identify a Muslim city (and not attack it) and a Non-Muslim one (to attack it):

Narrated Anas: Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) attacked some people, he would never attack them till it was dawn. If he heard the Adhan (i.e. call for prayer) he would delay the fight, and if he did not hear the Adhan, he would attack them immediately after dawn. We reached Khaibar at night.

🛑 Islam & homosexuality:

📌 Quran condemns homosexuality:

(81) Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."

- Quran 7:81

"We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women : ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds. And his people gave no answer but this: they said, "Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind. And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): Then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime!"

- Quran 7:80-83

📌 Tafseer ibn kathir (Sunni interpretation):

("Do you commit lewdness such as none preceding you has committed in all of the nations Verily, you practice your lusts on men instead of women.") meaning, you left women whom Allah created for you and instead had sex with men Indeed, this behavior is evil and ignorant because you have placed things in their improper places.

The Story of Prophet Lut, upon Him be Peace, and His People - Tafsir 'Ibn Kathir

📌 Quran has a punishment for Homosexuality:

"If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone; for Allah is Oft-returning, Most Merciful."

Quran 4:16 (also see Tafsirs of this verse)

📌 Tafseer ibn kathir (Sunni interpretation):

(And the two persons among you who commit illegal sexual intercourse, punish them both. [Qur'an 4:16]) Ibn Abbas and Said bin Jubayr said that this punishment includes cursing, shaming them and beating them with sandals. This was the ruling until Allah abrogated it with flogging or stoning, as we stated. Mujahid said, "It was revealed about the case of two men who do it." As if he was referring to the actions of the people of Lut, and Allah knows best. The collectors of Sunan recorded that Ibn `Abbas said that the Messenger of Allah said, «مَنْ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ يَعْمَلُ عَمَلَ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ، فَاقْتُلُوا الْفَاعِلَ وَالْمَفْعُولَ بِه» (Whoever you catch committing the act of the people of Lut (homosexuality), then kill both parties to the act.)

"The Adulteress is Confined in her House; A Command Later Abrogated" - Tafsir Ibn Kathir.

📌 Heres a few sahih hadith as well:

من وجدتموه يعملُ عملَ قومِ لوطٍ فاقتلوا الفاعلَ والمفعولَ به

Narated By Abdullah ibn Abbas : The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you find anyone doing as Lot's people did, kill the one who does it, and the one to whom it is done.

- Sunan Abi Dawud 38:4447

Other sources: Albani (2350), Abu Dawud (4462), Tirmidhi (1456), Ibn Majeh (2561), Musnad Ahmad (2732)

Sunan Abu Dawud 11:2169

🛑 Death for Apostates:

{ فَإِذَا ٱنسَلَخَ ٱلۡأَشۡهُرُ ٱلۡحُرُمُ فَٱقۡتُلُوا۟ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ حَیۡثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمۡ وَخُذُوهُمۡ وَٱحۡصُرُوهُمۡ وَٱقۡعُدُوا۟ لَهُمۡ كُلَّ مَرۡصَدࣲۚ فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَخَلُّوا۟ سَبِیلَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ }

[Surah At-Tawbah: 5]

"And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." - Quran 9:5

Mohammed said: "whoever changed his religion, kill him." - Sahih Bukhari (3017), yet GCC countries don’t apply them.

🛑 Alcohol is haram (Quran 5:90) and punishable by lashes (Sahih Muslim 1706) - yet it is available is most GCC countries.
