My name is Mariana Romo-Carmona. I am a writer, professor of Latin American literature and culture (and comparative literature), and translator from Spanish to English. The first article I have contributed is a biography of the Chilean painter José Romo Vargas. This painter made a significant contribution in the 20th century, having produced an estimate of over 4,000 works in his lifetime. Because he was a person of very modest means-- he lived and maintained his family from his artwork-- he was self-taught and never had formal exhibitions of his work until after his death. The only conflict of interest in my writing his Wikipedia page would be that he was my paternal grandfather. There are no other scholars doing any research on this artist, however, and given that he was a part of the Vanguard movement in Chile, I find that this is important to document. All the source material is from public records, genealogy archives, national digital library, and my own archival material. There is no monetary gain from any of this work.
