Maria Lampadaridou Pothou (born in the island of Limnos is a Greek writer. When she finished her first elementary studies in Limnos, she then received the degree of Panteion University in Athens and Sorbonne university, Paris, Theater Department, as a fellowship of the French Government, 1966 – 1967. As long as she was in Paris, she was acquainted with Samuel Beckett with whom she had correspondence for many years. She became his translator and reviewer. She wrote an essay on his work entitled Samuel Beckett - The experience of the existential Grief, which was published with a production by the French writer and Hellinist Jacques Lacarrière.

After her work of Samuel Beckett thought, she felt the need to find the transcendence of Greek light in poetry of Odysseus Elytis. And with his help she worked two years to write the essay book Odysseus Elytis – A Vision of the World. The cover page portrait is of Pablo Picasso.

Ιn 2015 Patakis Publications published her autobiographical book "The paths of my Αngel" which are notes and thoughts from her calendars that she held throughout her life.

She has published numerous articles, critical reviews, and essays, in literary journals and daily newspapers, “To vima”, “Kathimerini”, “Eleftherotypia” for many years. She has participated in many international conferences in Greece and abroad.

In 2017 the Mayor of Limnos Demetrios Marinakis offered her a honorary exhibition room, for her precious items, the manuscriptes and the books, and, also, he offered her the “honorary medal” of the Municipality.

Doctoral theses on her books

Five doctoral theses have been done on her books at the Universities of Athens, Patra and Bari Italy. Two theses on the historical novel Maroula of Limnos, one on the theatrical play Antigone Or the Nostalgia of Tragedy and two on the historical novel Nicephoros Phocas.

Performed plays

Antigone or the Nostalgia of Tragedy It is a version of the Sophoclean tragedy in our times.

  • 1971-1972: For the first time the play was presented in Flamand Belgium, state theater: Kelderteater Malpertuis Direktor Berten De Bells.
  • 1978: On State Radio in Athens.
  • 1996: On California State University Hayward, directed by the professor of the University Edgardo De La Cruz. During the project's performances of Antigone or the Nostalgia of Tragedy, the university organized a week of Greek culture with speeches and events. I made two speeches “Antigone then, Antigone now” and “Αs I approach the millennium” At the university Berkeley was organized e poetry event where they read my English translated poems.

Electra' s Dance

  • 1971: National Theater of Athens. The play behind the symbols of myth presents the status of the dictatorship in Greece. Censorship rejects it. However, the pley is being played with police presence. Τhe music was of Stavros Ksarhakos and the stage design of Dionysis Photopoulos.

Bidding you Farewell

  • 1991: It was produced during the Second International Women Playwrights Conference, Toronto Canada.

The Glass Box

  • 1966 – 1967: Τhe play was taught in Sorbonne by the professor Charles Antonetti.
  • 1967: It was published at the French review (number 46) “Education et Theatre”, in Paris.
  • 1970: At the National Theater of Athens.
  • 1988: During the First International Women Playwrights Conference at Buffalo New York. In the last open session of the conference, I had made an intervention which published in the New York Times niewspaper. After that they asked me a theatrical play to see haw I write.
  • 1990: At the National television Chanel in Athens. The theatrical play The Glass Box was loved by Samuel Beckett.

Many other plays are performed in Athens, National Radio, Television and theatrical scenes in public theaters of Athens.
