Tony Rust is a famous and well known so-called "hotspot" in Windhoek. However, Tony Rust is not a hangout place, it is a track where drag racing, oval racing and drifting takes place. A wide variety of spectators usually attend to events held at the track. It is located on the outskirts of Windhoek, approximately 20 kilometers before Daan Viljoen Game Reserve.
The racing cars used include a variety of local tuned cars, like Golfs, Corsas and the impressive Hondas. Frequently, when a big drag event is to be held, racers from South Africa are requested to participate. Sometimes these include those who were privelleged to have their vehicles featured in the famous South African "Speed n Sound" magazine. These racers also include a wide variety of traditions, like Indians, Cape Coloureds and sometimes even the locally found Basters from Rehoboth.
A few years ago, the track was closed. Until approximately four years ago it reopened. As like any other place reopening, a lot of spectators attended the events held at the Tony Rust Racetrack. A few changes were made to the track, concerning the condition of the tar.
For events to be held, the daily newspapers, The Namibian and Die Republikein, advertise in order to make sure as much as possible people are aware that a motorsport event is to take place at the famous track.
