History
[edit]Formerly known as Silliker Group Corporation, Mérieux NutriSciences Corporation had its origins with the creation of the Silliker Labs in 1967 by Dr. John Silliker, Dr. Damien Gabis and Dr. Russell Flowers[3]. Over the years, the company has grown from a single laboratory to a worldwide presence. In the 1990s, Silliker began its association with Institut Mérieux – the original research lab of Louis Pasteur[4].
From 1999 to the present, Silliker capabilities have expanded from 12 labs in 3 countries to over 70 labs in 18 countries[5] with a name change into Mérieux NutriSciences Corporation in January 2011 and the implementation of three complementary business units:
- Silliker: Food safety, quality and nutrition[6]
- Biofortis: An Applied Research Organization (ARO) dedicated to innovation for the health, nutrition and consumer goods[7]
- Bioagri: Research laboratory in Latin America for environmental, pharmaceutical, chemistry analysis and food technology
Since 2007, Mérieux NutriSciences Corporation has made 15 acquisitions and joint ventures including in Brazil (Bioagri), China (BJJR and AsiaFoodInspection), India (MicroChem Laboratory)[8], South Africa (Swift Micro Laboratories)[9], and Italy (Chelab)[10] · [11].
