Jason Rust (born July 1978) is a City Councillor for the Colinton and Fairmilehead wards of Edinburgh. He has been in this post since 2004 when he was elected as the, then, youngest member of the Council. Prior to his joining the Council Jason was a practicing solicitor and notary public in Edinburgh, he is currently on sabbatical pending his campaign for the Edinburgh South West Westminster seat in the 2010 Election.

Introduction To Politics
Jason has been involved in politics since early in his life. During his youth a friend's father was a local Labour councillor and Jason helped the father and son distribute leaflets. After these years doing much of the grassroots work in a campaign Jason left any sort of political life while he attended university.
During his time at Edinburgh University he studied_____. After he completed his course of studies he joined the firm of _______. During his time there his interest in politics reemerged and at the encouragement of his colleagues he stood for selection as a Conservative candidate.
Following his successful bid at selection, Jason stood as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate. His election was victorious and began his tenure on the Council in 2004. Concurrent with his Councilorship he remained a solicitor and notary public.
After five years as a councillor, Jason decided to run for Parliament in his constituency of Edinburgh South West against the encumbent Member of Parliament and Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling. This election is scheduled to take place in late Spring 2010, once called by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the end of March.

Jason's record as a councillor shows his commitment to both his values and his constituents. He has campaigned for many local project. Recently, he has been petitioning the Liberal Democrat and Scottish National Party coalition Council to save of the Colinton Mains Community Centre, among five others, from being closed. He has also been working with the family of a blind girl to lobby the Council to help her soldier parents pay for her education at the Royal Blind School. Reference newspapers here also.

Jason opposes Alistair Darling on several issues, one of the most important being the necessity of an MP to be involved in their constituency regardless of their Cabinet position.
