About Me

I spend the majority of my time with my big family that consists of six siblings and four parents, or down on the Snohomish River rowing with my team. I was elected captain this past summer and have been in the top boat for the past two years. Some of my teams biggest accomplishments since I've been on the team are taking first place in the Northwest Regional Championship in 2019, and placing in the top 25 crews at the worlds largest head race regatta, Head of the Charles. The irony in all of that, Everett Rowing is seen as the 'odd team out' because most other crews have much bigger athletes, yet were still able to come in and compete and sometimes win.

My Wikipedia Interests

On Wikipedia, I mainly use this site for finding out generic information on something I don't know or don't full comprehend. You may see me looking up famous people, because I don't know about any famous people, or possibly looking up random facts I heard about on YouTube. In the future, you would probably see me looking up different types of rowing shells because I fully intend to keep rowing throughout the rest of my life.

Article Evaluation Essay

For this article evaluation essay, I decided to look up something a little bit closer to home. As a high schooler, I barely knew anything about Everett Community College until I actually visited the website, and then still I was a little bit overwhelmed. I had seen a few people’s social media accounts here and there of people involved in the school, more specifically the sports, but hadn’t known about the school’s side of some of the opportunities they offered. I visited the Everett Community College article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: their athletic opportunities throughout the school, the lack of content on the subject of school administration or present faculty, and also a little more information on the present student body.

First, I wanted to comment on the lack of information on the athletics the school has to offer. I have seen multiple friends of friends social media accounts out in the community, and each of them had a short quote about the sport they participated in for the school. I think since it is such a key part of these people's lives, why shouldn’t it be mentioned to the other people who are looking up information about this school. One may say that community colleges typically offer sports and so it's redundant to word it again here, but I think it's important to know what each school has to offer.

Next, I really think that the page should talk about more of the administration or present faculty. Dr. Daria Jones Willis talks about a lot of public opportunities and sends out lots of emails staying involved with her community. I think it’s important for other people to know about how involved and engaged the EvCC community is with the public. It is possible that point could violate the Wikipedia rule against lack of evidence but it could be defended and shown by the consistent emails sent out by Dr. Willis herself.

Lastly, I believe the Wikipedia article should reference the student body a little bit more often. I read the article and it talks a little bit about the ratio between students and staff in 2016-2017 but not to this day. While that year is still quite recent, I’ve seen updated other high school pages that show student body counts yearly in a table form.

In conclusion, I still do believe that the EvCC Wikipedia article is well updated and maintained, a little bit more inclusive of the actual school itself would add the extra summary for other people interested in what the school is about. I thought it was really cool to see an about section that was followed up with a notable alumni list.
