VIRUSES

Viruses is a group of ultramicroscopic , non cellular highly infectious agents that multiple only intracellularly inside the living cell without involving growth and division.

GENERAL CHARACTER OF VIRUSES

  • Viruses are non cellular ultramicroscopic infectious agents.
  • They are highly pathogenic and cause infectious disease in animals and plants.
  • They are easily transmitted from one organism to another by means of a vector. The virus is transmitted by arthropod is called adenovirus.
  • they are perfect obligate parasites and cannot be grown on artificial culture they are inert outside the host cell.
  • Viruses can be various shaped
  • 1) Spherical- AlFalfa mosaic virus, foot and mouth virus
  • 2) Cubical - Vaccinia
  • 3) Elongated rod shaped - tobacco mosaic virus
  • 4) Polyhedral- polio, turnip yellow mosaic
  • 5) Tadpole like (bacteria virus T2)
