Overview
Swasthi Foundation is a charitable organization, with its base at Trivandrum, Kerala, and offering its services to all people of Kerala. Swasthi is an ancient Sanskrit word, meaning well being, and is used regularly in old texts. In keeping with its name Swasthi Foundation roots its functions mainly on healthcare activities. So far the organization has so far rendered help and support to under privileged people of Kerala, who have been diagnosed with Cancer. Swasthi also give utmost importance to the early detection of Cancer, as that is when the chances of a cure is most possible. To this end Swasthi runs Cancer detection camps all over the state. Swasthi often gets support or assist other organizations with the same objective, like IMA. Oncology Club of Trivandrum, Gokulam Medical College, Shanthigiri Ashram and Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum. Swasthi gets invaluable mileage in its endeavours from Media Partners, most notably Malayala Manorama.
History
Swasthi Foundation was founded in 2012, as a non profit, non religious, charitable foundation with humanitarian consideration as the lone guiding principle. It aimed at the general upliftment of the less privileged sections of the society. With an avowed mission to be a prime motivator in the domain of charity and play a decisive role in the fortification of the deprived and the underprivileged, Swasthi Foundation has the vision of implanting the noble concept of charity and generosity in minds that triggers a macro level societal change in the long run. The Foundation aims to achieve this by engaging like-minded people, with firm belief in charity and beyond reproach in their personal and social life. The list of office bearers of Swasthi Foundation so far bears fair testimony to this.
Activities
While Swasthi Foundation, involves itself wholehearted in various social issues, the foundation has singularly focused on the realm of healthcare, most notably Cancer Detection and Cure. Swasthi Foundation, has on its own or in conjunction with other organization been involved in various campaigns and drive aimed at General Awareness, Early Detection and Effective Cure of Cancer. Campaigns such as Snehathalam and Rakshaka Raksha are examples of mega drives in this field.
Snehathalam:
’Swasthi Foundation , started this campaign by enlisting the voluntary help of Qualified Doctors , who, in their spare time, help in the detection and cure of malignancies . This continues to be a very successful move that has had a telling impact on many lives. Swasthi Soukhya was the wing of the Foundation, set to handle the detection and cure of Cancer and continues to function to date Snehathalam, meaning the rhythm of love, or heartbeats of care, is a mega drive aimed at detection of breast and oral cancer. As of January 2018, Snehathalam has successfully completed three statewide drives and in engaged in the fourth phase. The statistics of these drives are truly noteworthy and the fourth phase promises to be an epoch making venture.
The first campaign was the screening of 9842 cases for breast cancer. Of these 947 were referred for further evaluation. . The end result showed 8 cases as malignant. And hence treated,
The second campaign was the screening for Oral Cancer detection. Through 42 camps 3527 cases were screened , detecting 15 cases of Oral Cancer
The third campaign was a combined oral and breast cancer detection camps and the detailed report is awaited.
The fourth phase is a mega drive and aims at screening a minimum of one hundred thousand cases. The phase aims at completing this mammoth endeavour in the span of one year.
Protection for the protectors of society
In acknowledgement of the pivotal role of the police in the protecting the freedom and rights of citizens ’Swasthi Foundation. launched Rakshaka Raksha,, the free cancer screening, for breast , Oral, and Cervical cancers for policemen and their families. A free ophthalmology test camp , aptly named, Kaval Kannilinu Kaaval, is being run by Swasthi.
Other Socially relevant activities
Socially aware , ’Swasthi Foundation has taken into account, the spate of atrocities on women, an d started , in conjunction with SAI and LNCPE , martial arts and mental conditioning of women, under the name Sneha Jwala. Along with Indian Army, Pangode , Swasthi, has plans to launch Green Pangode Clean Pangode drive, to tackle Waste Management issues and to enhance the environmental protection drive.
The destitute have also not missed the eyes of Swsthi. As of 19 March 2017, the health concerns of all inmates of the Trivandrum Yatheenkhana, Vallakkadavu, has become the responsibility of ’Swasthi Foundation, and this is likely to be extended to Aakasha Paravakal, an institute for mentally challenged, run by Vettucad Church. Ever conscious of socio-economic realities ’Swasthi Foundation, has realized the need of the hour for the the modern day professional, with his myriad stresses and the ailments that come with it.. Swasthi Destress clinic is the new project in the pipeline along with Jyothidev Diabetes clinic, to alleviate these modern day lifestyle curses.
Partners in Progress and Protection of the Society Swasthi has always had the support of various corporate, social organizations, media and the Government in its various campaigns and drives. Awareness, Social Support, Financial Backing and Administrative help is required when programs of this magnitude are undertaken. Swasthi Foundation has always received the support from various fronts, especially from the people and organizations listed below and some have partnered Swasthi Foundation in its various campaigns.
