Modern Legend

A legend is a genre of folklore that consists of a narrative featuring human actions perceived or believed both by teller and listeners to have taken place within human history. Narratives in this genre may demonstrate human values, and possess certain qualities that give the tale verisimilitude. Legend, for its active and passive participants may include miracles. Legends may be transformed over time, in order to keep them fresh and vital. Many legends operate within the realm of uncertainty, never being entirely believed by the participants, but also never being resolutely doubted.Legends are sometimes distinguished from myths in that they concern human beings as the main characters rather than gods, and sometimes in that they have some sort of historical basis whereas myths generally do not.

With this as a foundational understanding of that which constitutes a legend, we can take that a 'modern' legend is that which is still revered till this day. Popular modern legends cover a vast variety of focuses including but not limited to the supernatural, biologically undocumented organisms, unsolved treasure, tales of heroic display. Legends such as Bloody Mary, Yeti, The Dragons Keep, and Urrahntu are of just a few which have yet to be put to bed.
