Audiofanzine is a free webzine which aids musicians and audio engineers, amateur and professional alike, to exchange know-how while perfecting their skills and knowledge base.
The site offers several content platforms: daily news from the industry (e.g new products), tutorials and tests of software, hardware, instruments, musical gear or other equipment used in home recording, DJing, or music production. Such content is also complemented by site features for the online community which facilitates the contribution and the exchange of ideas via forums, user product reviews, tutorials, user videos, and classifieds. This platform provides a good cross over between editorial and user based content, as for example, an article review for a specific product will have at the same time user based reviews attached to it.
History
[edit]Audiofanzine was created by Philippe Raynaud. Philippe started playing the piano when he was 6 years old and began composing different types of music in his home studio when he was 14. In 1999, he wanted to produce his own album independently, which turned out to be a difficult but rewarding experience. When he was finished, he decided to share his experience in order to help other musicians. Hence, Audiofanzine was born.
How it became a (small) company
While pursuing his studies in Computer Engineering, Philippe maintained Audiofanzine as a side hobby. He watched as similar websites came and went, as their webmasters became too busy with their everyday lives, families, jobs, etc.
At the same time, Philippe realized how important Audiofanzine was to him, and continued to add content and to develop more features. It quickly became obvious to him that he need full time support in order to realize his goal, and, hence, he transformed his personal website into a real company currently based in Paris, France. Despite this, Philippe has never changed Audiofanzine’s philosophy, which remains to help musicians achieve their goals. The company today employs 20 full time employees based in Paris and a host of other part-timers and freelancers scattered around the globe. Most of the people involved with Audiofanzine are guitar, bass, keyboard players and amateur sound engineers.
