Team sport

Canadian Women Ice hockey team 4 gold medals in a row (2002-2014+)

Usa Men's basketball team 7 gold medals in a row (first 7 tournaments 1936-1960).

USA Women's basketball team 6 gold medals in a row (1996-2016+).

Ice hockey

2006 was the only Winter Olympics that the USA Ice hockey Women's team didn't win gold or silver. Sweden beat them in the semi-finals. The first time that Women's ice hockey was included at the Olympics was 1998. Canada have always reached the final.

The 2019 Women's Ice Hockey World Championships will have 10 teams for the first time. If the format is successful it will be used for 2022 Olympics.

Short track speed skating

Yellow card worse than being penalized. Notable example Elise Christie in the 2018 Olympics 1000 metres. Red card means disqualified for all distances.

Alpine Skiing

Downhill & Super G are known as the speed double. No man has achieved this. No man has won gold twice in the downhill but the 2010 silver medalist won in 2018.

Jean-Claude Killy, Toni Sailer and Janica Kostelić all won three gold medals at the same Olympics but in different years. Alberto Tomba of Italy was the first to successfully defend an Olympic alpine title, he won gold in the giant slalom in 1988 & 1992. He also won gold in the slalom in 1988 & got silver in 1992 & 1994.

Mixed team event began in 2018. It is parallel slalom. Rules 2 males, 2 females & 2 reserves. Race 1 female vs females, Race 2 male vs male, Race 3 female vs females, Race 4 male vs male. If tied quickest aggregate time wins.

Strokes Butterfly evolved from Breaststroke. 1956 was the first Olympics to feature the butterfly as a separate event.

In the 2012 men's final of the 100-metre breaststroke, South African Cameron van der Burgh won in a world-record time of 58.46, bettering the previous record of 58.58 held by Brenton Rickard of Australia. After the race however, underwater camera footage showed winner van der Burgh did three illegal butterfly kicks on the underwater pullout (rules allow for one kick). Van der Burgh later admitted to the illegal move and justified the act by saying if he was not doing it, "you are falling behind or giving yourself a disadvantage."
