1)Zia, Y., & Khan, M. (2000). A Comparative Review of Traditional Review of traditional and New Public Administration Critique of New Public Management. Retrieved October 16, 2015,
The study done by Yorid Zia and M.Zeb Khan compares the traditional approach to public administration and the current New Public Management. There have been lots of assertions with this New Public Management (NPM) so this piece looks into those and addressing them. In the academic journal the authors bring attention to the fact that there has always been an attempt to seek different ways that will ensure efficient use of our resources. This way, we can grow currently but avoiding the generations to come. This article is useful for adding to the Wikipedia page because it gives a comparison of how people think of traditional and New Public Management. It would be a great addition to the page where they are discussing history and development.
2)Hood, C., & Dixon, R. (2015). What We Have to Show for 30 Years of New Public Management: Higher Costs, More Complaints.Governance, 28(3), 265-267. doi:10.1111/gove.12150
This article discusses how New Public Management is working towards a better and less costly government. One of the main topics discussed is the idea of “you get what you pay for.” The authors apply this idea to the cost cutting within the government. In this piece the New Public Management works with the government and the public service reform. This article is useful for adding to the Wikipedia page because gives insight to the idea of how budgeting and time effort effect things within government. This is beneficial for people who do not see the need to be involved with the government and maybe change their minds. Just like the first article I believe it would best fit in with History and Development on the page.
3)DIEFENBACH, T. (2009). NEW PUBLIC MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS: THE DARK SIDES OF MANAGERIALISTIC ‘ENLIGHTENMENT’. Public Administration, 87(4), 892-909.doi:10.1111/j.1467-9299.2009.01766.x
Before the New Public Management came into play the public sector organizations were not so “business-like”. With years of work done by the NPM it is now more business-like. There have studies on this has impacted many the public sector but they seem to be a little biased. Most of the studies have provided interesting but anecdotal evidence. This piece is able to provide a systemic identification and understanding of the NPM and how they impact public sector organizations. The two main things the article provides is: 1) comprehensive taxonomy of the NPM main assumptions and main elements 2) more understanding of the new organization and the negative consequences of it. This article is useful for adding to the Wikipedia page because it gives the bad side of New Public Management. It makes the site on Wikipedia a little less biased when talking about New Public Management. It would best fit in where it says Issues in the subcategory called criticisms.
4)Assmo, P. A., Wihlborg, E. A., Linköpings universitet, I. O., & Linköpings universitet, F. O. (2012). Public Services Choices When There Are No Alternatives?: A Paradox of New Public Management in Rural Areas. Journal Of Rural And Community Development, 1.
While in rural areas there has been a decrease in service around the world there has not been in public services. The reason being, that the decrease in population decreases the resources available for local public services. New Public Management’s main values are centered on the private sector. This article discusses how this becomes a large problem on the rural areas. This article is useful for adding to the Wikipedia page because it will help understand that New Public Management is not just public sector but there is a private as well. This article would best fit in the section labeled differences between Public and Private sector. The only issue I see with this article is that the examples on New Public Management are based off of different countries not the United States.
5)Colon, M., & Guérin-Schneider, L. (2015). The reform of New Public Management and the creation of public values: compatible processes? An empirical analysis of public water utilities. International Review Of Administrative Sciences, 81(2), 264-281. doi:10.1177/0020852314568837
This piece answers how compatible the reform of New Public Management and the creation of public values are. The examples that the article uses are about two public water reforms which show the value associated with the measures done by NPM. There are some public values that are created by a leader and some are formalized by NPM tools. This article is useful for adding to the Wikipedia page because it gives an insight for what the values are for New Public Management situations. It may be a problem because it only gives insight to water issues and that is not the only thing New Public Management deals with.
