Notes
[edit]- ^ Listed fares are for travel from San Francisco to the listed destinations, or from the destinations to San Francisco. This table does not include all changes to fares.
- ^ Fares for intermediate station pairs are set by number of zones involved. For travel prior to 1992 (7-zone system) or 2003 (9-zone system), fares are determined by the number of zones touched minus one. For instance, a trip from Burlingame to Sunnyvale involved travel through four zones (Zones 2, 3, 4 and 5) prior to 2003; one-way fare for this three-zone trip in 1983 would have been US$2.65 (equivalent to $8.11 in 2023), obtained from the orange band ("Zone 3," since "Zone SF" fares apply to travel within a single zone). After 2003, fares are determined by the number of zones touched. The same trip in 2016 involves travel through two zones (Zones 2 and 3); one-way fare for a two-zone trip would be US$5.75 (equivalent to $7.3 in 2023) in 2016.
- ^ Fares are displayed as One-way [Monthly]. Round-trip fares (currently, "day pass") are double the one-way fare except as shown in italics briefly in late 1982, when a round-trip discount was applied.
- ^ Zone structure changed to a 9-zone system in July 1992 with inauguration of service to Gilroy. The prior 7-zone system was inherited from Southern Pacific.
- ^ Zones consolidated and simplified to 6-zone system in 2003 in anticipation of Baby Bullet service. Round trip tickets were no longer sold starting in 2003; "day pass" tickets replaced round trip tickets at the same rate of 2× one-way fare.
- ^ Paul Avenue closed in 2005.
- ^ Butler Road closed in 1983.
- ^ a b c Prices are slightly higher for travel between SF and Zone 1 only. The lower price listed applies to travel between other adjacent zones, e.g., Zone 4 to 3.
- ^ Regular service added in 1983; closed in 2005.
- ^ Service added in 1983.
- ^ Castro replaced in 2000 by San Antonio.
- ^ Service added in 1981.

Formerly owned by the Golden Gate Railroad Museum, these five Southern Pacific "subs" have been stored at the WPRM for several years after being purchased by the Virginia and Truckee Reconstruction Project. Originally built for commuter service in the San Francisco - San Jose corridor, they were deemed unsuitable for the rebuilt V&T and were resold to the Timber Heritage Association. [...] The decision was made by Timber Heritage to scrap out the last car rather than move it.
