Corporate History
[edit]In 1967, William Tregaskiss began the business by selling welding products in Michigan and Ontario. Working in cooperation with Ford Motor Company, Tregaskiss realized the need for a welding gun that could withstand abuse and the Auto 350 was born in 1972. It gained the reputation for being tough and reliable and set the precedent for future welding gun development.
In the 80s, Tregaskiss reached several milestones, including the introduction of the T40 MIG welding gun, which set the standard for many features on MIG welding guns today. The company also began growing its distribution channel worldwide and became ISO certified.
Tregaskiss introduced its TOUGH GUN line of MIG welding guns in 1992. These "built-to-order" guns were an industry first, feature interchangeable parts and a lifetime warranty on handles and switches that are still part of the product line today. It also developed a new robotic air-cooled MIG gun that helped shift the industry away from water-cooled systems, particularly in the automotive industries.
From 1995 to 1996, Tregaskiss augmented its product line with robotic peripherals, including nozzle cleaning stations, wire cutters, and anti-spatter and sprayers. It also introduced its TOUGH LOCK™ Consumable System.
In 2000, the company launched its TGX™ MIG Gun and embarked on a major expansion of its headquarters in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
It was purchased by Illinois Tool Works, Glenview, Illinois in 2007.
